kunrad maakt werk waarin subtiele geluiden en fenomenen kunnen worden ervaren. De wind in een bundel riet, met je hand langs een hek gaan, regen op het tentdoek, het kraken van papier. Hij tracht deze fascinaties te abstraheren en ze te presenteren als geluidsbelevingen. Door middel van deze ervaringen hoopt hij bezoekers de waarde van het alledaagse te tonen. kunrad’s werk is tentoongesteld en uitgevoerd op talloze exposities, galerieën, festivals en musea. Hij werkt op een site-specific manier: elke keer dat zijn werk ergens wordt geplaatst, wordt het aangepast en toegespitst op de omgeving.
Streep 2 is de volgende stap in een doorlopend onderzoek van kunrad naar de fysieke weerslag van computermuziek. Voor dit werk heeft hij zich gebaseerd op het concept van de DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), het aangewezen software-instrument voor vele elektronische componisten. Binnen zo’n DAW wordt geluid weergegeven als blokken die op een tijdlijn gearrangeerd staan.
Streep 2 is de tweede PAW (Physical Audio Workstation). In deze PAW is papier het object, water de actuator, en druppelen de methode. Het aanbrengen van water op papier is gekozen om de vergankelijkheid van de fysieke wereld te benadrukken.
De focus van Streep 2 ligt op een specifiek soort papier dat uit de textielindustrie komt en dat normaal gebruikt wordt om de rollen op een textieldrukpers te beschermen. Lange stroken papier worden gekreukt om het juiste aantal vouwen te verkrijgen. Het neerleggen van de compositie op de vloer is onderdeel van de performance. Door een convergerende beweging aan te brengen in de hoeveelheid water en in de dichtheid van vouwen in het papier, tracht kunrad de aandacht te trekken en in te zoomen op de laatste druppel water. Die ene druppel zou wel eens meer impact kunnen hebben dan de grote hoeveelheden water in het begin.
Als kunstenaar vraagt kunrad: “Hoe breng ik het kleine naar het publiek, breng ik de schok van een druppel water als die van een kanonskogel?”

Streep 2 is an iteration of kunrad’s ongoing research on the physicalization of computer music. For this work he draws from the concept of the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), which is the go-to tool for many electronic composers. Within the DAW, audio is represented by blocks that are put onto a timeline.
Streep 2 is the second PAW (Physical Audio Workstation). It features paper as object, water as actuator, and dripping as method. The appliance of water on paper is chosen to emphasize the transiency native to the physical realm.
The focus of Streep 2 is on one type of paper. The paper comes from the textile industry and is normally being used to protect the rolls on a textile-press. Long strips of paper are wrinkled to have the correct amount of creases. Forming the composition on the floor is part of the performance. By using a converging movement in the amount of water and in the crease of the paper, kunrad tries to draw the attention and zoom into the final drop of water. That one drop might have even more impact than the shower of water at the beginning.
As an artist kunrad asks: “How do I bring the small phenomenon to the public, the impact of a single drop of water to that of a cannonball?”
